Hey Everybody!

The time on the computer is running out fast. Michael claims to be a guy of few words, but he sure did take a long time to write that last post! :)

I know he told you all a lot, and I'm glad he got that picture up. That is our life here in one picture I would say. I laugh everytime I see it. Things are still going great here. We've gotten to know the area pretty well already, and even made it out to the masai markets on Saturday after we posted here. It's funny how some things try to be so westernized, and then you can turn and meet people who make a living by weaving baskets and carving wood. The culture is definitely different here!

All of the volunteers have been trying to come up with something American to cook for the kids, but that has proven to be very difficult since we don't have an oven or a microwave here! We might try to make rice krisy treats next week, but if you have any suggestions, please let us know! We have a gas stove top, and a fridge that stays on about half the time, so be creative! We went to the grocery store here today to try to come up with something, and we thought about grilled cheese, but then we found out that it costs about 12 U.S. dollars to buy 20 slices of cheese that expired last month...forget that!

I'm getting used to showering every other day. The power goes out almost daily here and doesn't come back on until after about 7pm each night, which limits the hot water usage in the house. The kids get priority for the shower too, since they literally roll around in mud all day for fun. We gave them all bubbles yesterday, which they surprisingly didn't spill all over themselves. However, the bubbles are scented, and a couple of kids tried drinking them since they thought they smelled like candy. Oops!

Alright, well I had better sign off for today! I hope you all are doing well and can't wait to tell you everything!
Love,
Kasey

Hey Guys:
I sure do miss your smiles around here but I am glad you are having an amazing experience. Remember you do make a difference in every life you come in contact with..so take comfort in that! Reading your post makes me feel so connected. Maybe one day I will have the same chance..that is once I retire from teaching. Looking forward to hearing from you all soon! You are missed! Grandpa says-- The Tarheels seeded #2 in NCAA baseball tourney & will be one of four regional host sites. Heard a rumor Vera Bradley seriously considering a special African Safari Bag!! Pending receipt of photo ops from Miss Kasey!!??

so proud of you both. I can't imagine all that you are experiencing. The pictures are wonderful...keep them coming. Both of your blog comments are thought provoking. A suggestion for a snack. We used to fry cheerios in butter and salt them. Do you have butter & cereal? Also, some seeds (like Pumpkin seeds) could be sauted.
Our blessings are with you,
Grammie & Grandpa

Kasey and Michael: We eagerly await your messages. I know they won't come every day, but I always check. The updates are great. You two sound good and I hope the adventure continues. Who couldn't love those kids.... I can't think of anything for the kids (you know I'm not very creative in the kitchen) but I do worry about the food situation. Are you all getting enough to eat--and what are you eating. By the time you get home, we'll be spending $12 for expired cheese also--the way the economy is going right now. But we pray not. I'm curious about how you wash clothes--certainly not by hand. How about water--do you have clean water to drink? I have a million questions, but will save them for your return. Take care. We love you! Remember the "footprints."

We are so fortunate...we are just an e-mail away...which makes us feel as though we are all in your back pack. Amazing how you can fall in love with these children so quickly. The time will go so fast...home again. Take care...with love, Grandma and Papa

Kasey and Michael, I just wanted to let you know that Jonathan and I are going to try to call the orphanage Friday afternoon (our time). I want to wait until Landon is home from school, so at least three of us will get to talk to you. Dad said you sounded great on Tuesday, and he really enjoyed hearing the voices of Mery and Jastin. You are both doing a wonderful job of describing the people and the experiences you are having. As you can tell by all the comments on the blog page, so many of us look forward to each picture and paragraph! All is well here, and we can't wait to talk to you on Friday! LOL YBFF Mom.

I LOVE the picture of the kids. It is amazing to me to see the happiness on their faces depsite their situation. It is people like you that give them their hope and happiness. It takes a strong person to go there and do what you are doing, but it will take an even stronger person to tell them good-bye. Enjoy every minute there and bring home lots of memories and stories to tell Jake and Mags!

Love, Amy

Kasey and Michael: We are up at the mountain for a few days; its cold and rainy. I was just thinking about you two and the children there. All of us who love you can't wait to get your messages. However, I think we've all come to love those little faces. I hope you will tell them how much the "mgundas"(can't remember how to spell it) have come to love them too, and we only know them because of the two of you. See, you have left "footprints" all over these pages! All our love. Mimi

Not sure if you guys got into town today. I know mom looks forward to your messages. I guess we'll have to get her set up for texting so she can communicate that way too.
It was great to speak with Jesca and Mary the other day. Mom and Landon will try to reach out to you by phone tomorrow. I will text this as well.
Take care.
